Creating a Masterpiece

Quantum's first shot at his paint job

So like I was saying…the first plan didn’t pan out, so Quantum asked for my help. The first thought this time was maaaybe we should (or he should) sand the copper and original paint from the computer case and start anew. One day to sand, one day to prime, a few days to let the black paint dry, and two days to paint the flames. Yeah RIGHT! Well, I guess it did only take him one day to sand and one day to prime, but the last two steps, well, that’s another story.

Before and after sanding

We wanted a black background and decided to let the paint set this time, seeing as that could have been another reason for the previous problems. My responsibility in the meantime was to design the hotrod flames that were to be painted over the black background. Well, I spent hours and hours searching the internet looking to steal other peoples designs, and came back empty handed. I didn’t find exactly what I was looking for, or maybe it was because I wasn’t really excited about flames anymore. The alternative to “borrowing” someone else’s design was to think of something on my own, and I drew a blank. I was feeling the pressure from Quantum (boy do I mean pressure), and getting annoyed with myself for not coming up with something right away. Actually, I do this a lot, always have, but that’s something for my therapist and me and to deal with…:) I’m sitting at my house one-day watching television and it hits me! No, not Quantum’s computer, but an idea for the case!

Case finally painted properly

The design was more of a doodle than anything, but it looked good on paper, so I decided to show it to Quantum and see how he felt about the design. He insisted I get to work immediately, so I drew the doodle on a large piece of tracing paper and cut the design into the case with a utility knife. I figured this way the paint might stay in the lines if I gave it a place to stop. I had previously thought of painting the outline in silver and fill it with blue, but Quantum didn’t like the colour scheme, so I revised my plan to silver as the base with a gold outline. Now that the colours were chosen and the design ready to go, there was no stopping me, baby!
