I Purchased the A-Open 1240 the cheapest way possible, this being just the drive in a clear bag and a receipt. I removed my Samsung 48x CdRom and then replaced it with the A-Open 1240 DVD drive.

Installation of the A-Open 1240 was simple and fast. It’s the exact same way as you install a CdRom. It comes on the MASTER setting so make sure that its going to be your MASTER first and if not set it to your SLAVE if you want to make it your slave. Hook up all the cables and your ready to rock.

I first loaded the software “CyberLink” PowerDvd Player. You will need the DVD player software so make sure you have it before you go out and purchase a bare bones drive.

I then put the DVD “”Gladiator” into the drive and hit play. I put it to my favorite spot on the movie, you know the beginning when Maximus says “On my command, Unleash Hell”....:)

I was impressed with this drive, I have tested 16x DVD-ROMs and I would have to really think about if the 16x is worth the extra money at this time. That extra $30.00 you would pay for a 16x DVD could probably be better spent upgrading another component in your computer.
