IDE Cable Rounding Guide

The Reversible Procedure

The first way to round your cable involves no cutting at all.  You won’t be able to get your cable as compact as possible, but if for whatever reason you want to have your cable back to its original state, then that is as easy as removing a few pieces of tape or zip ties.  The first step is to fold the cable in half, long ways.

Try to get the fold as close to the connectors at each end.  The next step is to fold both outside edges so that you have 3 individual folds, each equidistant apart.

Now you will bunch the folded cable into one piece.  Then secure it together, starting as close to a connector as possible.  Hold it together with electrical tape or a zip tie.

Continue the bunching and taping, through the entire length of the cable.  Space the tape at your discretion, usually about 2 inches between.  The final product will then look like this.

As you can see, your standard IDE cable is now takes up much less space, and is also easier to bend and twist.
